Hard Work and Dedication

Music classes teach you practice skills that you wouldn’t learn anywhere else. These skills can be applied to scales and other musical pieces, but can also be applied to studying for chemistry tests, working on a new dance move, or practicing for sports. You learn that achieving your desired results requires not only working hard, but also staying dedicated and committed to the very end.

Professionalism

From marching band uniforms to concert attire, one of the first things you learn in band is how to present yourself. This goes from respecting other groups, to having certain rules to hold yourself to while in uniform, such as avoiding profanity when speaking and making sure you look presentable.

Even how you sit matters! I’m sure you have seen pictures of professional orchestras where the violins are all sitting the exact same way, even when they aren’t performing. It adds another level of professionalism that shows just how much these musicians care about their craft and the ways in which they present themselves.

How to Make Connections

Through music, I have been able to make connections with people from all over, including other students, new directors, and even some famous composers! I have had the amazing privilege of gaining a variety of contacts I can reach out to if I ever need anything. I have both gained life-long friends from other areas of the United States and created long-time professional connections.

All-Around Life Skills

I would not be successful in my life if it weren’t for music.

Something else that music has helped me with that I would never have expected is job interviews. Every time they ask me, “What is one thing in your life that has shaped you today?”, I get to talk about the wonderful experiences that I have been given through music.
